Foundations of Emotional & Social Literacy
A Teacher-Led Program for Schools
Help Young Students Return to Focus, Navigate Big Emotions, and Participate More Successfully in the Classroom
A six-week classroom pilot for Kindergarten, First Grade, Second Grade, or a mixed K–2 classroom — with practical tools for focus, self-regulation, and classroom readiness.

The Classroom Need
Young children are still learning how to manage their energy, attention, emotions, and relationships.
- 1
Students become distracted easily and need repeated redirection.
- 2
High energy makes it difficult to settle after arrival, recess, or transitions.
- 3
Big emotions can quickly interrupt learning.
- 4
Children may struggle to express what they need without withdrawing, crying, arguing, or reacting impulsively.
- 5
Social challenges with classmates require frequent teacher intervention.
- 6
Teachers must pause instruction to restore attention and classroom stability.
These are normal developmental needs. But without simple, consistent tools, teachers are often left to manage them moment by moment while also trying to teach.
Awakening Spirit Foundations of Emotional & Social Literacy is being created to meet this practical classroom need.
The Program
A practical program designed for the real school day.
This six-week pilot helps children develop simple, age-appropriate skills for:
- 1Recognizing and naming emotions
- 2Noticing body signals
- 3Returning attention after distraction
- 4Releasing excess energy through purposeful movement
- 5Pausing before reacting
- 6Communicating needs respectfully
- 7Listening to teachers and classmates
- 8Handling everyday social situations more constructively
- 9Returning to learning after a challenging moment

Choose a helpful tool.

3
Return
to learning and connection.
This is not an additional academic subject. The practices are designed to fit into routines teachers already lead.
How It Works
How the six-week pilot works.
The pilot can be adapted for one kindergarten, first-grade, second-grade, or mixed K–2 classroom.
- 1
Attention and Presence
Notice where attention has gone and practice bringing it back.
- 2
Recognizing Emotions
Identify feelings and the body signals that accompany them.
- 3
Breathing and Pausing
Create a brief pause before responding.
- 4
Movement and Focus
Use purposeful movement to release energy and return to a task.
- 5
Empathy and Communication
Listen, express needs, and respect personal boundaries.
- 6
My Personal Toolkit
Ask: “What is happening for me?” and “What can help me now?”

The Classroom Companion
Meet Spark, Your Classroom Practice Companion
Spark is a friendly animated character who helps teachers guide short, engaging practices focused on attention, concentration, and emotional awareness, laying the foundation for self-regulation.
Each video is about a minute long and invites children to participate, notice where their attention is, and recognize how they feel.
Teachers remain in the lead, while Spark provides clear, child-friendly guidance.

About Alesya
Why I created this program.
Alesya Negodina — Founder, Awakening Spirit Global
I have worked with children since 2017 and have taught yoga, mindfulness, self-awareness, and emotional regulation practices in school and youth settings.
While visiting schools and working directly with children and educators, I repeatedly saw the same challenge: teachers were expected to support children's attention, emotions, energy, and social behavior while also delivering the academic curriculum.
Children needed simple practices they could understand, repeat, and eventually begin using for themselves. Teachers needed realistic tools—not another demanding program added to an already full schedule.
That experience led me to create the Awakening Spirit Foundations of Emotional & Social Literacy pilot.
Teacher Support
Designed to support the teacher.
The classroom teacher leads the short daily activities. Alesya provides the program, training, materials, and implementation support.
30
Minutes
approximately one teacher training each week
10–15
Minutes
short classroom practices on school days
6
Weeks
of structured implementation and support
- 1Six structured program modules
- 2Ready-to-use teacher scripts and training videos
- 3Morning check-ins, transition tools, and movement resets
- 4Emotion cards and student activities
- 5Weekly support and classroom adjustments
- 6Teacher feedback before and after the pilot
- 7Final recommendations for the school

The teacher does not need previous mindfulness, yoga, or emotional literacy experience.
After the pilot, the materials and classroom routines remain with the school.
Classroom Observation
What the school can observe.
The school can explore whether students return to learning more smoothly after transitions, develop clearer emotional vocabulary, use familiar tools with less adult prompting, and communicate more constructively with teachers and peers.
Progress is explored through teacher feedback and ordinary classroom observations.
The program is educational and preventive. It does not diagnose or treat children, replace school counselors, or guarantee the same result for every student.
